Color

Full color, 256, 16, Grayscale, Custom palette and Duotone take each character's color from the image. The others draw every character in a single color - One color uses the Text color below.

Preset

A preset overwrites size, detail, character set and color. Everything stays editable afterwards.

Character grid

120 characters across

8 px per character

120 x 120 chars -> 960 x 960 px

The two shape options let the grid decide the pixels. Pick a pixel size (in px) instead and the canvas is fixed at that size, which derives the character size for you.

Look

0.16 - default 0.16

Typography

The font decides how wide a character is, so it changes the shape of the grid as much as the detail slider does.

1.00 - default 1.00

0.00 em - default 0.00

Transform

Crop as a percentage off each edge, applied before conversion - or drag a box on the image.

Tone

0.00 - neutral 0.00

0.00 - neutral 0.00

1.00 - neutral 1.00

0.00 - off at 0.00. Crisper detail in photos.

0.00 - off at 0.00. Lifts flat, gray photos.

ASCII preview

Every text export (.txt, .md, .html, .ansi, .sh, .svg) is trimmed tight to the artwork, so it carries no blank margin. The .png is the only export that keeps the full output size, blank margin included. The .ansi and .sh carry the background color unless Transparent is on; .sh is a script that prints the banner in a terminal. Copy link shares your settings, never the image.
